Red Marmot Binges: Season 2 Episode 2 Vox Machina 🍜🍜🍜🍜

I was ecstatic to dive into Season 2 Episode 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina. The episode starts with our favorite heroes arriving in Vasselheim, home to temples representing almost every prime deity. As they seek help from the Platinum Sanctuary about the Chroma Conclave, they are refused aid and pointed towards The Slayer's Take, a Vasselheim guild that slays rare creatures. Meanwhile, Grog discovers a new purpose in combat and the group is ambushed by members of The Slayer's Take, only to fall into a trapdoor and meet a sphinx named Osysa.

The heroes' encounter with Osysa, the sphinx, was a crucial moment in this episode of The Legend of Vox Machina. Osysa's introduction added a new layer of depth to the show, as she revealed information about the vestiges of divergence and the war weapons created to strike down the gods during the Great Calamity.

However, Osysa was not interested in helping Vox Machina without a price. She separated the group and exploited their weaknesses, challenging them with the question, "How do you expect to save the world if you can’t even save yourselves?" This moment provided a significant character development opportunity for the heroes and showcased their determination to save Tal'Dorei, even in the face of adversity.

This episode expertly sets up a new quest for Vox Machina as they search for the vestiges of divergence, powerful weapons created to strike down the gods in the Great Calamity. Osysa's manipulation and testing of the group adds an exciting level of mystery and challenge, while Percy's discovery of Dr. Anna Ripley's purchase of black powder adds a new layer of intrigue.

In this episode, Grog's side plot involves him following a butterfly to a meditating man named Earthbreaker Groon. The man tells Grog that he has entered the Storm Lord's ring, and that the Storm Lord is interested in warriors. However, Grog's mind is clouded in weakness, and Groon tells him that the answers he seeks will be earned in combat.

What follows is a surprising and intense combat sequence between Grog and Groon, where Grog realizes that he is not as strong as he thought. Groon sees that Grog wields a dark weapon, which proves his weakness, and he asks Grog where his strength comes from. Groon ceaselessly attacks him until Grog finally admits that he doesn't know.

This scene is significant because it shows a vulnerable and uncertain side of Grog, who is usually known for his brute strength and confidence in battle. It also sets the stage for a potential character development arc for Grog, where he will have to confront and overcome his weaknesses in order to become a greater warrior.

Overall, while Grog's side plot in this episode may seem like a distraction from the main mission, it is a compelling story that adds depth to his character and sets up interesting possibilities for future episodes.

I rate Season 2 Episode 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina a solid 4 out of 5 steamy bowls of spicy ramen 🍜, and I can't wait to see where this new quest takes them.
